How to Repair Graphite Fishing Rods

Place the broken parts of the fishing rod on the ground or a table and line them up as if the rod were not broken.

Grab a fine coping saw or hacksaw (scissors will work in a pinch) and trim the areas where there are breaks. It is not necessary to make the breaks totally smooth, but they should be sufficiently even to fit snugly into a ferrule. A ferrule is a small device made of metal that holds both pieces of a broken pole together.

Wipe ferrule cement around the broken parts of the rod.

Slide each end of the rod into one end of the ferrule. Fill any gaps with cement.

Repair broken rod guides using thread and lacquer. To begin, unwind the thread from the rod guide, then set the guide where it originally was. Wind thread around the guide and the fishing rod to connect the two. Place lacquer on the thread and allow it to harden.

Fix a damaged or broken rod tip by using a scissors or saw to cut off the rod tip. Make the cut as evenly as possible. Rub ferrule cement on the end of the pole, then insert the end of the pole into a new rod tip. Make sure the new tip is lined up with the other rod guides. Place a small amount of cement in the crease where the rod and the new tip are joined, and let the cement harden.
