How to Ice Fish for White Perch

How to Ice Fish for White Perch

Instructions

    1

Locate white perch during early winter in waters with shallow weeds and areas such as shoreline points and breaks. During mid-winter, perch tend to move away from structures and congregate at the nearest deep basin. When fishing during late winter, drop your lines closer to the weed lines and bays.

    2

Fish by using the jigging method. Raise and drop your rod tip for a foot, then wait five to ten seconds and repeat. Pounding the jig is also effective when ice fishing for white perch. Pound by jiggling the rod tip up and down an inch or two in quick motions.

    3

Entice the fish with lures such as vertical spoons, flash spoons or live baits like minnow and worms. Spoons are highly visible -- especially in vertical positions -- and should be rigged with a treble hook on the bottom. A combination of a minnow head attached to the hook on a vertical spoon can be very effective for winter perch.
