Water Conditions
Fishing in the wrong waters can be a frustrating experience as the fish prove to be too capable of detecting the danger presented by a boat disturbing the waters. Murky waters are ideal, as they make it difficult for your boat to make a noticeable difference in the water. Shallow waters of approximately 3 feet present the ideal depth for shallow fishing.
Weather
The weather when you are fishing also plays a vital role in enabling you to catch fish. Wind causes ripples and choppiness in the water that help to hide the presence of your boat's own disruptive waves. Overcast days make for better shallow fishing as the fish that dwell in deep waters are more likely to move into the shallow end when it is overcast.
Vegetation
Areas devoid of any underwater vegetation are unlikely to be home to fish for catching. An ideal area to fish is one with weeds below the surface, or underwater branches from trees. Vegetation provides fish an area to look for food while sheltering them from predators.
Baits
Even if fishing under ideal weather and location, a fisherman casting a rig with poor bait is unlikely to have a successful day on the water. When fishing in shallow water, use worm-like baits. Worms and grubs are more likely to be found in shallow waters, where they can wash, making them prime bait in these areas. If you do not have worms or grubs, spinner baits make for effective shallow water bait.
