Lake Arthur Walleye Fishing Tips

Lake Arthur Walleye Fishing Tips

Time of Day

Walleye usually are more active after dark. Because of this, fishing is typically better early in the morning, late evening or night. When it gets dark, walleye return to spawning beds or look for minnows to eat in shallow water. If you want to catch walleye, you need to be willing to loose a little sleep.

Underwater Landmarks

Walleye tend to follow bait-fish around the lake, so areas heavy with minnows are where you will probably find a higher population of them. Areas such as the bridges or sunken roadbeds are prime locations to find bait-fish. Some of the local bait shops will have maps detailing the underwater habitat and structures which will also help find your prey.

Water Temperature

Walleyes like cold water. Because of this, they will move towards deeper, cooler, water as the air temperature increases. If you are fishing during the day, find deeper holes. As sun goes down and the temperature drops you can move into shallower water as the walleye will come up from the cold to feed.

Moon Phases

An astrologer may tell you to go fishing during certain phases of the moon, but it is not because they are seeing into the future. The moon phases can, and do, impact walleye fishing. Different studies have shown that during the three days before and after the full moon and new moon, walleye are more aggressive and eat more than normal. So you don&039;t have to pay to get your fortune told regarding your fishing luck, instead just buy a calendar.

Weather

It has not been scientifically proven, but many fishermen agree that as either high or low pressure weather fronts moves in, walleye fishing gets better. As the air pressure increases or decreases, walleye tend to become more active. Watch the six o&039;clock news to learn about when weather patterns are changing.
