Tips for Sea Fishing Bait

Tips for Sea Fishing Bait

Worms

Rag-worms, lug-worms, beach and blood worms as bait will attract the smaller sea species such as cod, flounder, whiting, sole and flatfish. King rag-worms, which are larger in size than others, may even entice the bite of some larger sea species.

Fish/Shellfish

Sea species live amongst their food and predators in their habitat so other fish and shellfish they regularly feast on will attract them to your line. Slimy ackerel and yellowtail will attract kingfish, mulloway, snapper and sharks. Shellfish, crabs, shrimp and octopus will catch salmon, leatherjackets, perch and whiting.

Meat

Chicken and red meat will attract some sea species such as mackerel, sharks, yellowtail and mulloway. The guts, liver and kidneys of nearly any red or white meat land mammal will also do the job.

Bread/Cheese

Bread and/or cheese dipped in fish oil will also catch sea fish. Mackerel, yellow-tail, mullet and drummers are a few that will bite on a doughy or cheesy bait.
