Instructions
- 1
Spool your ice fishing rod with 50 to 75 yards of 6-pound braided fishing line.
2Tie a swivel hook to the end of the braided line using a cinch knot. Tie the monofilament leader line to the opposite end of the swivel with a cinch knot.
3Tie the 4/O hook to the end of the leader line using a Palomar knot.
4Slide two or three split shot sinkers onto the top of the leader line, just under the swivel.
5Place the tip-up next to the ice hole and set the balance. Place the rod onto the balance and string the line out, with your bait choice -- try using cut, frozen shrimp or frozen minnows -- into the water and thread out until you feel the hook hit the bottom of the lake.
6Reel in a few inches of line to get the hook off the bottom but still close to the water's depth.
7Wait by the tip-up until the balance rod tips, alerting you to the walleye striking the hook.
